Hudson Valley Wireless has partnered with Cornell Universities Cooperative Extension (CCE) to administer a Digital Literacy Program. CCE has access to the knowledgebase of the (106) Land-Grant University and Colleges and the (57) Cornell Cooperative Extension offices in New York State.

The program is funded through the Connect NY Broadband Grant and focuses on providing training and support to communities and anchor institutions.

Cornell Universities Cooperative Extension’s mission is to “enable people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and knowledge to work”.

CCE will empower communities by teaching them how to use computers and show the benefits of using the Internet. We are building a MOBILE training lab to bring the educational tools into the communities. Training classes will be held at School, Libraries, Town Halls, Fire Halls, Grange Halls and other local meeting places.

The project includes Video Conference units and Interactive Plasma Display’s to communicate with other Cornell chapters across the state. The mobile classrooms will have computers and other devices to teach people how to access the Internet and other applications.
This technology will allow us to educate farmers on how to care for crops; show businesses how to embrace e-commerce and export goods, doctors can provide better care for patients and seniors can learn how to use computers.

Example:
The Glens Falls Housing Authority is home to approximately 300 elderly residents. These residents are on fixed incomes and cannot afford monthly Internet service. We are providing a computer and FREE Internet services to (3) of the Glens Falls Housing authority buildings. Our antennas and equipment will be located on the rooftops and we will provide free services so the residents can use a computer in the lounge.

We have built strong public / private partnerships and fostered economic development by working with County and Town officials to design a modern communication system for the rural areas. Our comprehensive approach of deploying services and providing educational resources will allow these communities to harness the full potential of modern broadband networks.
